...It is no secret that I am pretty set on 'Meet Anonymous'. As the album name. But it is not because it is cool or rad or groovy. I actually have reasons based within the music on the project itself.
BTW ALL PUNS INTENDED...I will explain...
Lets start with the obvious - the oxymoron and contradictory play on words. I am a sucker for good clever literary trickery. To say Meet anonymous "matches" The name and image you have spent so much time and hard work cultivating. Think about your logo with the 3 anonymous faces. Who are these people? What are they all about? What do they represent? How shall we classify them? These questions and so much will be answered when you 'Meet Anonymous'. The color scheme of the logo and band is black and white and quite bland. I mean that in a good way - I mean your name is Anonymous after all. Now all of that can be discovered by old and new fans alike in an inviting and high quality way to Meet Anonymous. IT is more than an introduction (thats why I don t like "introducing anonymous", not to mention it is not your first anything) . It is a chance to get inside of the personality and ideals of this excellent band of musicians and performers. IT implies heart and soul have been put into the project. This is also personified in the songs with various small things like the intro and outro having that personal touch. In other words, We have put things in the music to support the name 'Meet". ( this album was hard grueling and very meticulous, apart form the comradery of you guys and your awesome personalities there is not much about this album that was easy or fun. This effort was Difficult and complicated but well worth it - you know like Meeting and getting to know someone. )
This group of songs bound together in my opinion are begging to called by the before mentioned title.
I mean come on the first song title is HI. I would be more compelled to call it 'Tales from a Time Well Spent' if we had song titles and concepts like "Once upon a time" or "Fun times" or "Dave's Crazy Party" or "the time we drank moonshine in Nashville and somehow ended up in the Atlanta airport playing music and begging for money ( no one still knows how) dance remix" hehehe ooops that was real life.
But no. This isn't the case for our titles:
Hi - The title says it all 'Hello" including lyrics that say "I just want to say hello"
Classified - A lyrical diatribe on individual thought and a deeper look into the personality of the band Anonymous
Big Game - a song about the view of the world and what we have to do to survive; a cornerstone in the personality of the band as well the outlook on playing the HAND your dealt
Comeback - Love Love Love how can you get to know somebody without knowing about that.... also an invitation to old fans of the old album to come back and check us out closer and unexposed. also that you appreciate the fans who have helped you along the way
Picnic With Hines - How can you talk about getting to know the anonymous personalty without Chris Hines, not to mention the complexity and varying styles - it really shows off the diversity of the band as well as the fact that you appreciate the folks who have helped you along. At this point of the album you go full throttle from introduction of characters to main story as you go from the hello phase to the lets go on a picnic and party phase.
The Queen - speaking of the HAND your dealt here's another card reference. At this point of the album the queen is examined. you can't get to know someone without adversity and I suppose the Drama queen is the antithesis.
Dub Synth - Ever notice when you get to know someone, at first you think one thing, then as you get to know them party with them and embark on adventures things surprise you both good and bad. This song embodies that --- a song with no lyrics , dark , eerie, Reggae, simplified and basically just a few parts. Just the opposite of what you'd expect from Anonymous the band. "This comes to pass too damn fast."
Top of the World - The climax of the story basically reflecting on times when things were at their best, appreciating them , feeling on top of the world even though you're not anymore. The height of the party adventure, the ability to let go and hang on at the same time. The euphoric feeling you get when partying or loving or laughing or getting to know someone deeply or on an incredible party/adventure. You're on top of the world but we all know what always comes after being on top of the world............
The
Hangover - Of course this is how you end the album this is how all good stories end. this is the ending of all good adventures that help you really get to know someone. This is a peek into how the persona of the band generally handles unwanted artifacts of good times with a grain salt, a good attitude, and cure.........
I don't think we could have created a better concept album if we had done all this stuff on purpose, but it somehow just created itself. However people are going to think we did it on purpose...i.e.. that you guys are clever, creative and deliberate in your musical efforts.
Let me say that this CD has taken a life of it's own. To use Nick's words "Our Baby". These are songs that exist and entertain completely independent from their live version cousins. They have a different impact on the listener and exist on a higher and multi dimensional level. There are things in this particular project people will not hear until the third or forth listen that contribute to the overall listening experience and continued enjoyment. Which brings me to my next concrete reason. The CD is not something you can get to know on just first listen much like meeting a person. Sure you get the general Vibe but it takes a lot of invested time to really get to the inner sanctum....
